Anonymised work snapshot

Cross-platform administration product line for cloud workplaces

An anonymised engagement pattern for a multi-platform administration product designed to span Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace tenants under a single coherent product line.

Client privacy

This snapshot is intentionally anonymised. It describes the pattern of work without naming clients, publishing private details, or claiming unsupported metrics.

Challenge

Enterprise IT teams operating across both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace lacked a single administrative surface for tenant overview, identity oversight, policy visibility, and operational governance. The product needed a shared core plus platform-specific editions that did not feel like two different applications.

Approach

What the work involved

The focus is practical consulting output: current-state clarity, risk sequencing, architecture decisions, governance, and implementation guidance.

Defined the product line architecture with a shared administrative core and dedicated editions for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
Mapped five capability areas: shared tenant overview dashboard, identity and admin visibility, policy and compliance surface, issue and alert context, reporting and communication layer
Established a single visual language and interaction model that works across both platform editions
Designed the v0.1 foundation release with intentionally constrained scope - clear job, clean structure, coherent product-line language rather than a feature catalogue
Documented design decisions and architecture boundaries so subsequent releases can extend without rewriting the foundation

Outcomes

What changed for the organisation

The result is a clearer path for decisions, implementation, governance, and operational ownership.

Outcome

A product line that is legible in one screen rather than as two separate applications

Outcome

Shared and edition-specific features documented and visually distinct

Outcome

Foundation that supports later release storytelling - features layered onto a credible base rather than retrofitted

Outcome

Enterprise IT identity established before broader feature build-out

Transferable pattern

What another organisation can learn from this

The details change from client to client, but the useful pattern is consistent: make the current state visible, sequence risk, and turn decisions into practical implementation work.

Decision clarity

Product-line scope made explicit at v0.1 to communicate discipline rather than ship a bloated feature list.

Operational change

Five capability areas mapped to dual editions with shared core, so build effort scales linearly rather than doubling per platform.

Risk reduced

Identity, policy, and alert surfaces designed for review-friendly enterprise IT use from the first version.
